IF ONLY I HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO TAKE MORE PHOTOS WHILE I WAS IN JAPAN. HOWEVER, THOUGH PHOTOGRAPHY WAS ONE OF MY INTENSE INTERESTS, THERE WERE OTHER INTEREST I HAD TO ATTEND. I HAD NOT BEEN SENT TO JAPAN TO TAKE PHOTOS FOR NEARLY THREE YEARS. AT THE TIME, THE NATION OF JAPAN WAS STILL IN THE PROCESS OF REBUILDING AND THE PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES WERE ENDLESS. NEVERTHELESS, I TOOK QUITE A FEW, SO I MUST BE SATISFIED WITH THIS FACT. ONE CANNOT GO BACK IN TIME.

I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THE AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHIC WORK OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER IHSUSTA 52 and I am most impressed with his work. I am looking forward to viewing more of his fantastic photographs. I would love to be in Japan once more, to shoot the scenes that so enchanted me as a young man in my first overseas duty. It was a tour I have never forgotten. It was an affair of the heart if one can love another nation almost as much as one loves his own nation. I shall never forget the many great moments so very long ago. It is photography like IHSUSTA52'S that delights my heart and soul. A journey through his photo collection is almost like a return trip. Almost.............Robert

It is so comforting to know that there is something so distinctly Japanese about the scenes that despite the years that have passed since I last looked at real life images of this nature, I would still, after these many years, know that this is the Japan of the past but in the present. A great nostalgic shot from my perspective. Editor

PHOTOGRAPH OF TRADITIONAL JAPANESE SCENE BY PIERRE M
Traditional scene. The stairs and roofs are so precise, so perfect, so very japanese. Almost every scene at any angle is a work of art and you have captured so many in your photostream. Congratulations and thanks. Robert

YOKOHAMA SUNRISE 1963
IN THIS PHOTO TAKEN ALMOST FIFTY YEARS AGO, A NEW SUNRISE BEGINS ANOTHER NEW DAY IN THE NEW JAPAN. IT WAS A TIME OF MUCH ENERGY AND CONSTRUCTION, A TIME FOR LOOKING AHEAD AND FORGETTING THE PAST. IF ANY NATION ON EARTH HAS OVERCOME HATE AND DESTRUCTION, IT IS THE JAPANESE.
A FRIENDSHIP BORNE OUT OF SORROWS, BUT ONE THAT IS SINCERE.
IT IS AS IF WE SHARE A SECRET BETWEEN US, BOTH OF US HAVING SEEN THE SHAME AND SORROW OF OUR DEEDS OF LONG AGO, BOTH OF US RECONCILED LONG AGO, BOTH OF US HAVING FORGIVEN AND ALMOST FORGOTTEN.

KINTAI BRIDGE BY R.L. HUFFSTUTTER 1962 , IWAKUNI, JAPAN
LIFE IS FULL OF GREAT MEMORIES
Whenever I got the chance to fly down to Iwakuni for a few days, I was ready to go. The scenery and the bridge provided daytime joy while painting, sketching and shooting photos. The evenings were spent in quiet sake shops and bars gazing out at the twinkling lights reflected in the stream beneath the bridge. The atmosphere was serene; the sound of the samisan was unforgettable. The smiles of the people were genuine and admiring. The sight of a peaceful American enjoying the customs and courtesies of their ancient nation helped create the type of good will America shares with Japan today. There was no vile hatred of Americans that I observed; the nation had had ists problems; the problems were solved and America was doing its share to rebuild a nation. I am proud to have been a part of that era

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A STONE LANTERN LIKE THE IMAGE OF THE JAPANESE LANTERN BY PHOTOGRAPHER trillic to cause me to enter into a relaxed state of mind. Perhaps it is a subtle Zen influence I adopted for philosophical purposes while living in Japan in the early1960s........................
